7th Annual Race For Kids Sake Children's Leukemia Foundation Family Fun Day details announced......

The Race For Kids Sake staff is busy putting the finishing touches on the 7th Annual Children’s Leukemia Foundation Family Fun Day set for July 12, 2009 to be held at the Kalamazoo (MI) Speedway.  This event will be our biggest yet with events and activities planned to raise money that will be donated to charity.  We will have a Children’s Leukemia Foundation representative present to accept our annual donation, as well as a number of families that have been affected by this disease to show support and offer a fun, safe afternoon for the kids.

We have moved our event this year to the Speedway and opened up options of what we can do, lowering expenses and allowing us to make a huge impact on the amount of our donation to the CLF.  Regional race car drivers will attend from the Kalamazoo, Galesburg, Butler, Hartford and M-40 Speedways; and will be serving dinner to fans and friends at the drivers designated tables.  The drivers will be working to earn tips at their table, with all money again being donated to the charity.  The Race For Kids Sake staff is excited to announce a new adventure that will further help children in the community.  Make sure you are a part of this great event, and find out what our new plans are!

Games and activities will be set up to entertain kids, both young and young at heart.  The annual competition between the drivers competing in teams to battle for the “Dylan Cup” will be the marquee event for the afternoon.  This year we are excited to announce that we have over 40 drivers registered to help out as waiters and participate in events leading up to the “Dylan Cup.”  We will also have a live auction and raffle of donated items including gift baskets, NASCAR memorabilia and collectibles and items from various Michigan sports teams as well.

Race For Kids Sake became familiar with the Children’s Leukemia Foundation after learning that the Delarye family had lost a young family member.  Dylan, 3, lost his battle with Leukemia back in 2001 and his uncle changed his race car number from 18 to “DY1AN”, to honor the youngster.  The RFKS members talked with the Delarye family and decided to work to bring awareness and raise money towards this fight to find a cure for this disease.  The events at the dinner were named after the fearless child, honoring him with the traveling “Dylan Cup” that stays with the winning team for that year.

Rick Beebe and Jason Seltzer are set to emcee the event, with special guests Deb Coats to award the annual Scholarships in honor of her late husband, Ken Coats.  The CLF will be bringing several families effected by this to be our guests for the dinner as well.  The Race For Kids Sake will be presenting our annual check to the CLF, with a member of the CLF being at the dinner for acceptance.

Tickets for this year’s dinner are $10 for adults, with kids 6 to 12 at a $5 reduced price.  Children 5 and under are free.  We are offering a “family pass” this year, which includes 2 adults, and up to three kids (to age 12) for $25.  Hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, brats, salads, beverages and much more will be included with the ticket, as well as being able to be involved with games all afternoon long.  Tickets are available at the racetrack the day of the event, or can be reserved by contacting a racecar driver that is participating in the event. A complete listing of all drivers volunteering will be posted soon on our website.

The Kalamazoo Speedway is just off U.S. 131, and can be accessed by using exit 44 (“D” Avenue) off the highway.   Turn to the West at the stop sign, and follow “D” Avenue to the red flashing light.  Turn to the South and the track will be located to the East.  Events are set to start at 2 pm on July 12th, with the raindate for the event being Wednesday, July 15.  For more information, including ways you can be a part of this great event, visit our website at www.raceforkidssake.org.
